Street Hockey

Street hockey is played like normal ice hockey but you don’t have skates or puck instead you have a soft ball or a soft puck. You can buy these items from your local store that sells equipment for sports. Usually those items are borrowed from the place.

To play street hockey, you must have 12 players in the game at any given time (6 per team). The positions are 3 Forwards, 2 Defensemen and 1 Goalie.

You play for three 15 min periods. Each team gets 2 time outs. A time out lasts 1 minute. Line changes should be made every 2-3 minutes.

Rules are simple. You shoot the puck/ball into other team’s net. The referee is responsible for making sure the rules are followed by both teams.

There are 3 different starting plays.

  1. Opposing centers face each other with their sticks one foot apart on the ground. Be ready because the ref is going to drop the puck.
  2. Opposing centers face each other, sticks on the ground, the puck in between them. Tap the ground and then your opponent’s stick three times then go for the puck.
  3. When the puck goes out-of-bounds, the last team to touch it loses possession. Players on the defending team must stand at least 10 feet from the spot where the puck went out-of-bounds, then the inbounding team puts the puck back into play.

Play stops after a goal, when the puck goes out of bounds, or    when a penalty or infraction is called. There are a few                  violations that stops playing.

  1. Knocking the puck into your opponent’s goal with anything other than your sticks
  2. Falling on the puck to stop play
